Absolver Review

Updated: Nov 13, 2019

A game that makes you feel like you're alone on an island void of content, ironically waiting to be absolved

This game is a poor man's cross-over of Dark Souls & Iron Phoenix. Virtually no depth and it is a grind fest. In 6 hours I beat the main game and reached level 26. To my surprise this game goes to level 100 and is mainly pvp where you do 1v1s or 3v3s. In my opinion, this game isn't going to last long. Iron Phoenix had similar game modes along with a 16 player death matches and while it was incredibly hyped back in 2005, the entire player base deserted it after a month because the repetitiveness was extremely boring. This game is no different.

Character creation is pretty simple

"...you can only communicate through emotes like with Dark Souls or Resident Evil Outbreak..." "...it's extremely disappointing and makes the game unnecessarily harder."

There is also no voice communication in this game, you can only communicate through emotes like with Dark Souls or Resident Evil Outbreak back in the day which, as you might expect in a competitive or even co-op game, it's extremely disappointing and makes the game unnecessarily harder.

On top of this, there's a map in the game that you probably won't even notice as it's tied to the "altars" which unless you're doing PVP (which you most likely won't because it takes forever to find a match due to hardly anybody playing)....YOU'LL NEVER USE. I didn't notice there was a map until I was 80% through the game and when I did, it didn't help much since there's no directional compass and the level design is so complex it seems completely random. Pick any country and imagine exploring without a map or GPS...that is Absolver. You're always lost, always fighting the same enemies, always confused as to where to go next, always running in circles, it is an absolute mess.

"The fighting system is not really that complex, you'll notice that certain styles beat others and the complexity is taken away by the fact that you have to grind to unlock skills..."

Then, by the time you've unlocked any cool skills or abilities, the game is over and what's left is just PVP, but like I said before nobody plays so good luck finding somebody to fight against. The fighting system is not really that complex, you'll notice that certain styles beat others and the complexity is taken away by the fact that you have to grind to unlock skills so you'll be stuck with basic combos for A LONG TIME. Once I unlocked Drunken boxing style I was pretty much unstoppable in 1v1 battles though as I dumped everything into strength and endurance so it was just a flurry of wild, unpredictable hard hits that also dodge at the same time as well as stop any sort of enemy attacks since the attacks are quick.

Becoming an "Absolver" in the end, just like the game is empty and meaningless

Overall, this game has no depth and needs a serious overhaul if it's going to keep anybody's interest for long. After 3 hours I was done, but decided to give it a second chance. Definitely not a recommendation from me, there's better games out there centered around MMA & boxing that have depth and excitement.

2 out of 5 Stars
